Let’s not get overwhelmed this Christmas.

When I look at everything I must do between now and Christmas it feels pretty overwhelming. Know the feeling? Feeling overwhelmed can also cause us to be unproductive – our bodies get sick, and our minds become cluttered and anxious. So, what can we do to avoid “End-of-year burnout?”

  • “Be still and know that I Am God,” Psalm 46:10. Make time to get out in God’s creation. Diary in something you enjoy. We are only human, and God is still in control of our lives, if we let go of the reins.

  • “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you,” 1 Peter 5:7. Jesus says that “His yoke is easy and His burden is light,” Mt 11:29-30. In the Bible the Pharisees were placing on the Jews a yoke of legalistic law-keeping, whereas Jesus offers grace. So be gracious to yourself this end-of- year. In your work and study just try your best and don’t take on unrealistic goals or other people’s unrealistic expectations. They too may be overwhelmed!

  • Enjoy the “reason for the season.” Christmas should be all about Jesus, not the stress of present-buying, costly functions, and holidays we cannot afford. Live within your financial means, and don’t say “yes” to every function.

  • Attend church; worship, hear the Word, and fellowship. Don’t view it as another thing to do that you haven’t got time for. Hebrews 10:25 says, “Don’t give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Let’s not get overwhelmed this Christmas. Let’s just enjoy it.
