Elder’s Pen 15th January

15/01/2023 By David Hydes

Good morning, Church

We are having another week of storms in our life. Ex-cyclone Hale hammed the East Coast of the North Island. My son was stuck in a cabin with his family on the Kaipara Harbour. Julie arrived with her father on the East Coast as Hale was releasing its power. Many have had holidays damped down or washed out as we say, including my family last week. Friends have lost loved ones to Covid. Our Family Dog Poppy died last Sunday afternoon.
But all is not lost. “And there is good news”.

We as a family attended a funeral on Monday for Dale Middlemiss, our bridesmaid’s mother, who got Covid and died. This lady loved the Lord, and when she was 30 was involved in a car crash and suffered a serious head injury in 1971. Dale left her body and went to Heaven. “Dale was met by Jesus, and He advised her it was not her time and that she had to go back.”
Now that’s a “life-changing moment”. Dale was no longer afraid to die as she knew where she would be going. Dale spent the rest of her life serving God. A trained as a nurse, she married late and while raising a family, she was involved fostering and home care for children while their parents worked or needed a break. Loved animals and birds, flowers and gardening. Dale was a good and faithful servant.

One of her favourite songs was:

All things bright and beautiful
All creatures great and small
All things wise and wonderful
The Lord God made them all

Each little flower that opens
Each little bird that sings
He made their glowing colours
And made their tiny wings

Some of us are struggling and need a touch from the lord.

As the song says (paraphrasing scripture)
Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus
Look full in his wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace

Do you have Jesus in your Heart? Do not put this major decision off.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” From John 8:12

Do you have the light of the world in your heart? Are you a good and faithful servant?

In love — David Hydes
