Serving those in need in Goodwood and Totara Heights
Paula Pio has come up with a wonderful idea of serving our community here in Goodwood and Totara Heights. The idea is that once a month we get together a “work-party” for two hours on a Saturday morning, and go and help the sick, the elderly, and those with disabilities. We would do gardening, cleaning, small painting jobs, etc.
This morning a board is going around for you to register your interest. This does not commit you to serving each month. We all have other things to do in life. Our first Connect Neighbourhood Working Bee will be July 16; 9.30-11.30am.
We will probably advertise this service to our community in the Manukau Grapevine. When I lived in Christian Community for ten years we used to have working bees every Saturday. It’s a good feeling to help your neighbours in need, and when you do it as a group it’s great fellowship too.
Jesus said in Luke 10:27, “Love your neighbour as yourself.” If we were unable to look after ourselves or our home we would appreciate others offering to help, rather than having to ask all the time.
“For He will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in His sight,” Psalm 72:12-14.
