Happy Mother’s Day
We may not all be mothers, but we were all born to a mother. God commands in Deuteronomy 5:16, “Honour your Father and your mother.” Jesus repeats this in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. So, mothers everywhere, we highly esteem you today. We thank you for going through with pregnancy and giving birth. We thank all mothers who have cared for their children as best they can. We bless all mothers wired with love and compassion.
Interestingly Jesus says that anyone who does the will of His Father in Heaven is “My brother, and sister, and mother,” Mt 12:48-50. In the church we can be “spiritual” mothers and fathers to many, and we can also receive love and guidance from our “spiritual” mothers and fathers. We may have been born to one mother, but in the church we become “mum” or “dad” to some, and “beloved child” to others. How great and beautiful is God’s love towards us that He doesn’t leave anyone out from a place in His family. So “happy Mother’s Day” ladies. May God fill you afresh for all you give to others.
