Pastor’s Pen 19th December 2021

19/12/2021 By Pastor Julie

The rising rate of anger in Auckland:   Apparently “anger” is on the rise in Auckland. Retail workers, vaccinators, and council and supermarket staff are being attacked and verbally abused in increasing numbers. A psychologist on TV1 this week said that anxiety, fear, and frustration, where people feel a lack of control re the COVID situation, is resulting in over three times the number of reported assaults.

But bless you church, for you have not operated in this way. I know that some of you were frustrated with our financial situation, and then with the Elders’ decision for the church to keep meeting on ZOOM instead of in person. Despite your frustrations you kept your cool and have dialogued in a respectful and self-controlled manner. Well done!

The Apostle Peter said, “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings,” 1 Pe 5:7-9.

We can do this church, if we take one day at a time and don’t expect too much from ourselves or others. And if you do see someone being abused, don’t engage with the perpetrator, but rather, check that the victim is OK.
