The Mordecai Movement: Today is the 3rd and final Sunday of Prayer and Self Denial where we focus on “the Mordecai Movement.” Mordecai is a very special supporting person in the Old Testament Book of Esther. Esther 2:7 states that Mordecai was a cousin of Esther, who brought Esther up as his own daughter, as she was orphaned. That’s one supportive older cousin! When Esther was taken into the Persian king’s harem against her will, and then was picked as his queen, Mordecai told her not to tell the king that she was a Jew. The Persian king may not have taken kindly to her ethnicity. Here we see Mordecai once again in a supportive role, protecting the wellbeing of the Jewish race.
Today Peter and Leonora will tell us more about Mordecai. The “Mordecai Movement” is an expression for those of us called into a supportive, encouraging, equipping role in God’s Kingdom. Not all of us are called to move to another country as cross-cultural workers. But all of us are called to give of our time, money, and prayers, for the extension of God’s Kingdom on earth.
Through P&SD how have you been prompted to pray for, give to, and encourage the work of NZBMS? Today we will be collecting up our envelopes. Thank you to all people who have given up something and saved their pennies to give. A great way to give is through automatic payment into the church account, using Prayer & Self-Denial (P&SD) as a reference. BNZ A/C No: 02-0232-0140117-00
This is the only annual appeal we make for NZBMS so let’s make it count. Also, if you go on the NZBMS website you can become a prayer partner and get weekly updates. Awesome!
