Faithfulness and Goodness: As Christians we all hope to hear these words from Jesus one day: “Well done, good and faithful servant,” (Mt 25:21). But what does it mean to be “good and faithful?” Surely only God measures up to that.
Every time we mess up and our behaviour does not reflect Christ, we may feel like poor examples of Christians. But “goodness” is a fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22), therefore all Christians have the potential to be “good” people, because of the Holy Spirit within us. It all comes back again to our worship of Christ and putting Him before all else. When we do that, goodness bubbles up in us. To be good means to be “virtuous” and “worthy,” and this we are because we live in Christ.
“Faithfulness” is also a fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22). Here again, are we “faith-full” all the time? Do we truly trust God 24/7? Or does our faithfulness faulter when we lose our job, get sick, fail in relationships, get over-tired, etc? Because we are human, and live in a fallen world, our faith in Christ may move up and down at times. But thanks be to God the Spirit in us is faithful to Christ and Christ to the Father, 24/7. Once again, it is worship that restores our faith. Prayer, praise, and Scripture- reading give us perspective. Worship allows the Holy Spirit to take over in us, restoring our faithfulness, and allowing God to sit in the driving seat of our lives.
Well done good and faithful servant, for reading these truths till the end!
