THE JOY OF BAPTISM:
One thing I get excited about, is seeing a person get baptised, and especially if they are a young adult male. In Western society this is the age group that often walks away from the church. As your church family Nathanael, we hold you up in prayer, knowing that God will surely bless this act of obedience.
Before Christ’s ascension he said this to His disciples:
“Go into all the world and preach the Good News to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my Name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people and they will get well.” Mark 16: 15-18.
Obviously, Jesus is speaking hyperbole (exaggerated language for effect), when speaking of drinking deadly poison or picking up snakes with your hands. These acts would probably kill you. What He is trying to say is that a baptised believer has Holy Spirit power, to come against Satan’s attacks and bless others with God’s love. After Christ was baptised and filled with the Holy Spirit, He was able to resist all of Satan’s temptations and go on to preach, heal, and save multitudes.
If you have not been baptised, are a believer, and of an age that understands what repentance means, then you should seriously consider baptism. Dying to your old way of life and choosing to live for Christ brings with it, freedom, and power.
