Pastors Pen 22nd November 2020

22/11/2020 By Pastor Julie

Baptism

Congratulations Torben and Gideon on your baptisms today.

If you’re a visitor here today, welcome 😊. You may be wondering how being dunked under the water can do anything. The whole process may seem strange to you. Let me explain. Baptism is an outward sign of an inward reality. Torben and Gideon have asked God to forgive them of all things that they’ve done in the past that don’t line up with God’s moral standards. They have asked Jesus Christ into their lives as their Lord and Saviour. This is called “conversion,” and at this moment the Holy Spirit comes to live inside them, opening their eyes to the reality of God and the Kingdom of God.

Baptism is part of a believer’s journey. When the believer goes under the water they identify with the death of Christ and the forgiveness of sins. When they rise up from the waters of baptism they identify with the resurrection of Christ, and new eternal life (Romans 6:4). Followers of Jesus Christ believe that when we die our soul and spirit go to be with Christ and the Father in Heaven. The Bible teaches that one day Christ is going to return to judge the living and the dead. Believers in Jesus Christ will receive a new body and live forever with God in a renewed earth and Heaven

Jesus Himself was baptised in order to show us the way (Matthew 3:13 – 17)

About Pastor Julie

I’m passionate about the church – building believers up in their faith, to be all God intended them to be; and I’m passionate about sharing the love and hope of Jesus with people who don’t know Him yet.
