Christ has anointed us
“He anointed us, set His seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.”(2 Corinthians 1:21–22). Now that’s Good News! Christ has “anointed” us, which means He has “set us apart for service.” Biblically, anointing was done by pouring oil on a person’s head. There was nothing special about the oil; it was just olive oil. But with anointing came power from God.
Christ set His “seal” of ownership on us. Biblically a seal was used to close a letter or legal paper or to prove authority of a paper. Christ “sealing” us as His own, symbolizes Christs authority over us. If I have to be a slave to anyone, let it be our God of perfect love. He put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit. The Holy Spirit counsels, guides and equips us. If that’s the “deposit” I can’t wait for the fullness of the Holy Spirit at Christ’s return.
We are guaranteed an eternal home of perfection. I can’t imagine a life without any sin at all operating. Now that’s such Good News.
