Biblical Reasons why Mormonism is not a Christian Faith
One of our people recently left Connect and joined the Mormon faith. Mainstream Christianity believes that Mormonism is a cult. Here are the main reasons why:
1. Christians believe that the Bible is the only inspired and authoritative Word of God. “All Scripture is God-breathed,” (2 Tim 3:16). Mormons say that only fools believe this (2 Nephi 29:6; the book of Mormon). They hold the Book of Mormon as equal or higher in authority than the Bible. But this Book of Mormon was published by a human, Joseph Smith, in 1829, when he was 24 years old. He was just a man, and not the “last prophet of God” that Mormons claim. He also practised polygamy.
2. Christians believe in the Trinity: God exists as One God in three persons. Jesus Himself said, “The Father is in me and I in the Father,” (John 10:38). He also said “I and the Father are one,” (John 10:30). The Holy Spirit is called “the Spirit of Christ,” (Ro 8:9). Mormons believe that the Father, Son and Holy Ghost are three separate gods.
3. Christians believe that God always existed as God and has never been a mortal human being (John 1:1; Ge 1:1; Ge 1:27). Mormons believe that God the Father was once a mortal who once lived on earth. He died, was resurrected, glorified, and grew into his deified status.
4. Christians believe that Christ was not created but always existed as God and with God the Father (John 1:1). Mormons believe that “God created both Satan and Jesus, and in that respect they are brothers (mormonchurch.com)
5. Christians do not believe that believers can become “gods.” Mormons believe that all the Father’s children possess the same potential to become gods. This places Christ on the same level as us.
6. Christians believe that we are saved only if we believe and follow Christ. Mormons believe that only married faithful Mormons get to go to “Celestial Glory” – they become gods! Mormons believe that “lower celestial life” is for single Mormons and other “so-called believers” who didn’t get to hear and accept the Mormon faith. This group cannot become “gods.” “Terrestial Glory” is for unworthy Mormons and for good humans who rejected Mormonism, but accepted it after their death. “Tellestial Glory” is for wicked people who reject Mormonism before and after death.
So if you think that Mormonism is just another Christian faith, think again! It is not! The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormon Church) is a cult. Although they say they are Christian, they are not! Stay away from Mormonism, and if you get involved in it you will require “de-programming” through deliverance prayer
