How do you face the new year – excited at the opportunities, or wary of the challenges ahead?
As we step into a new year many of us have a sense of trepidation.
Whether it be the health challenges we are facing, changes in our jobs, expectations of others or even just facing another year – it can be daunting – like mountains rising out of the mist. Yes, we can have a lot of joy ahead but the hurdles can seem a challenge!
Psalm 121 – called a Psalm of ascents – helps us focus our eyes: (Paraphrased.)
I look up towards the mountains ahead.
Where can I find help?
My help comes from the LORD,
The creator and moulder of heaven and earth.
He will not let you fall.
Your Guardian will not fall asleep.
Indeed the Guardian of God’s people
never rests or sleeps.
The LORD will oversee what you do as His child.
The heat of the day and the chill of your fears cannot overwhelm you.
The LORD guards you from every evil.
He guards your life.
The LORD is your reliable guard as you
come and go,
now and forever.
As Psalm 37:5 says:
Entrust your ways to the LORD. Trust Him and He will act on your behalf.
God bless you,
David Havill
