Good morning all.
My name is Monique. I’m a 2nd year Carey Baptist pastoral leadership student on placement here until Dec 23.
I want to thank you
I have been here for two weeks. Before arriving, I was a little nervous. I’ve been in my own church for many years, and sometimes change can be uncomfortable, for I know my church and its quirks and its strengths, but I knew that I don’t know this family. Pastor Julie and I have visited people, prayed for people, read stories to children… and you have all welcomed me in those spaces.
Last Sunday I joined you for worship with 2 of my kids, and as I walked into the building, I realized that even though there were differences and I had never worshipped here before, somehow, in a beautiful God-kind-of-way, I felt at home. This is special! This is God’s family, the Body of Christ, the brother/sister-hood of believers. It is awesome that I can be a part of your church and feel part of the family. What I love about this, is that it’s not something that we can make ourselves “be”. This is something that our Father does in us when we become part of his family.
Jn 13:34-35 says “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
I want to encourage you in your love for each other. It is beautiful, it is special, and it points to Jesus. I love being part of Jesus’ family where we have an immediate connection because of Jesus’ love. As we approach Christmas in the Car-Park, let’s be praying for everyone who comes along that they will feel God’s love for them. Let’s be praying that they will want to know why we are doing this, and why we care. Let’s be praying for Jesus to keep showing us how to love those who don’t yet know him.
