If I asked you, “What does it mean to be “Alive?” you may say “to be breathing, eating and sleeping;” “to be excited about everything we do;” “to be able to see, hear, taste, touch and walk;” or “to have rich, adventurous experiences.”
But Christ’s definition of being ALIVE is something quite different. It’s about being filled with the Spirit of God, and that LIFE can take place amidst the harshest of human suffering. These last few weeks I have witnessed the LIFE of the Spirit as Susan journeys the path of death in this life and into God’s glory. When Scriptures are read and songs of praise sung the glory on her face is evident of the LIFE within. Likewise with Ralph, as he navigates the journey from full independence to needing help from others following his stroke, the LIFE of the Spirit is evident. His determination to recover shows as he speaks out Scriptures to strengthen his soul. I am so grateful for the faithfulness of the elderly in our church and how they witness that to be ALIVE in Christ has nothing to do with our personal circumstances.
To be ALIVE in Christ is to persevere in faithfulness, and to overcome all situations life throws at us by staying true to our God. That’s when we see God, feel His powerful presence, know His love and experience the Kingdom.
