Happy New Year’s Eve people. Are you ready for 2018?
Most of the people I’ve been talking to are still trying to wind down and relax after a hectic end to 2017. Thankfully “rest” is important to God. After 6 days of creating He “rested” from His work on the 7th day (Gen 2:2); not because He needed rest but because we humans need rest in order to recharge, and God wanted to set the standard. I hope that this holiday season you make it a priority to get some much-needed rest from your work and give yourself time to just “smell the flowers.” You don’t need an excuse to rest, nor is “rest” a luxury. Rest is important to replenish our soul.
The Lord gives us rest from spiritual opponents (Joshua 21:44) by His grace, through our faith. Our experience of rest should not just be tied to our physical work but rather on our seeking and abiding in Christ. Jesus said, “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest,” (Mt 11:28). When we seek the Lord with all our heart, soul, strength and mind, God blesses us with many things – wisdom, knowledge, and rest from anxiety.
