This week I met with a bunch of Baptist pastors to talk “Evangelism.” Someone quoted a research statement that said this:
“The most contented church is one that is in slow decline”
This made me feel quite excited for us as a church that is undergoing change. We are certainly not “content” to be a religious group that meets solely to satisfy our own needs. There’s a whole world out there that needs to experience the love and hope of Jesus, and God is setting us up to help achieve that purpose. Our youth band is now rocking and they will be an important witness during our outreach events such as the upcoming Christmas in the Car Park. We will soon have a youth group again, creating a safe place for our youth to bring their friends. On Saturday, Nov 18, Breaking Strongholds ministry launches here, 7.30 – 9pm. This ministry is aimed at anybody in Auckland who has been damaged by the sin of sexual abuse or the effects of the occult. This outreach ministry desires to take back ground from under Satan’s feet and so is definitely not a “comfortable” ministry. Please pray for it.
The Preschool and Playgroup are also undergoing change as Robyn steps up as leader of both. With change comes challenges but also some exciting new ways of doing things. Watch this space.
Adrienne Williams will now be leader of the Wednesday prayer group, and Pastor Julie will continue as overall ministry leader for prayer. Jill Crooks has already started in her new eldership role and will be officially welcomed to her new position in a few weeks during the service. This leaves room for people to step up and take over some of Jill’s past community ministry roles. Seven of our people have had a new desire to look at strategic ways of evangelising, and we welcome that. We will hear their ideas over the next few months. So yes we are changing, but it is a positive change. So I think this slogan defines CBC……
“A church that welcomes change is one that is growing.”
