The “silly season” is sneaking up on us! What a shame we have to call it that considering it’s the time the Christian Church through the ages have chosen to celebrate our Saviour’s glorious birth. It should be of no surprise that Satan gets us diverted into thinking about other things – how we are going to get our work done by year-end; how we are going to pay for the Christmas presents we need to buy and the holiday our family desperately needs. How far into that trap have you fallen? STOP! Now is a good time to check where you are at. Do the best you can in your work without bowing down to unrealistic expectations. Is that stomach ulcer really worth it? Buy gifts within your budget for your loved ones. Remember that it’s the motive behind the gift-giving, not the size of the gift! Everybody needs a holiday from work, but is your planned holiday going to be relaxing and refreshing? It needn’t cost pricey money to allow yourself space to regroup and chill for a period. It’s not selfish; it’s necessary J Jesus said, “Be still and know that I am God,” Psalm 46:10. To be “still” is “to be free from noise or turbulence; to be untroubled.” In our own strength we can’t do this, but as we determine to meditate on Christ in every situation, we can. This “silly season” why not put Christ first? When you do, you may just find that it’s an enjoyable, wondrous ride.
